Description
We want to reduce GHG emissions by +55% as compared to 1990, sustain high productivity and make the production system adapted to a warmer climate and more resilient to climate hazards (flooding and drought).
Experimental Research station is located at conventional indoor pig farm of 200 ha. The farm is focused on pig production: 712 Sows + 13000 finishers produced + 44% sold at 7 or 30 kg. The soil on the farm is sandy loam in cool temperate humid climate. Crop rotation represented at the farm are: cereals, faba bean, cover crops.
Characteristics
Our PioneERS is a typical Danish indoor pig production farm. The ClimAp is focused on measures in the field to reduce N2O emissions and increase soil C storage (optimized cover cropping, targeted use of nitrification inhibitors, changes in crop rotation/feed ration, optimized field traffic to limit topsoil compaction induced N2O emission.
Measurements are carried out in a long-term field experiment on conservation/regenerative agriculture. Measures to reduce GHG emissions in relation to manure management, feeding etc. in pig production are integrated in the LCA analysis using data from AU Viborg. Side effects on N-leaching will be quantified and side effects on soil health and biodiversity will be assessed.
