Description
SUA in Nitra is the only agricultural university in Slovakia with 6 faculties with diverse research orientation in agriculture and food production.
In terms of infrastructure, ERS disposes of AgroBioTech research centre and University farm. The farm have Cca 2000 ha of land located near Nitra aimed at cereals production, maize, oil seed crops, cattle and pig farming.
Characteristics
Mission of the ERS is to enable synergy of research and real farming via applied research in fam conditions (field – based trials). Vision is to provide clear science – based guidelines for farmers in the region for climate smart and sustainable production.
Current research activities includes: Precision agriculture techniques for field crop production aimed at improving economic and environmental sustainability in Central European farming, with an emphasis on cutting-edge technologies in proximal soil and crop sensing; Evaluation of technologies in long-term, field-scale experiments, including controlled traffic farming (CTF), variable rate nitrogen application, and other site-specific management practices; Smart technologies in animal production that enhance the quality of the housing environment and promote animal welfare in energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable ways; Robotization in livestock farming, emission reduction, adaptation to climate extremes, and optimization of energy use in animal production; Testing and innovation of technological equipment to increase the profitability and sustainability of livestock farming through digitalization and automation.
